Windone claims the RM7 reaches 50+ mph, but what's the real top speed? We GPS-tested the bike across multiple conditions to find out.
Test Setup
- Rider weight: 180 lbs
- GPS: Garmin GPSMAP 67
- Conditions: Dry, 72°F, no wind
- Surface: Packed dirt and asphalt
- Battery: Full charge
Top Speed Results
| Mode | Surface | GPS Speed | Display Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eco | Asphalt | 22 mph | 24 mph |
| Eco | Dirt | 19 mph | 21 mph |
| Normal | Asphalt | 37 mph | 40 mph |
| Normal | Dirt | 33 mph | 36 mph |
| Sport | Asphalt | 52 mph | 56 mph |
| Sport | Dirt | 46 mph | 49 mph |
Key findings:
- The display reads about 8-10% higher than actual GPS speed (common for e-bikes)
- Real top speed on asphalt: 52 mph
- Real top speed on dirt: 46 mph
- Eco mode is genuinely useful for trail riding
Speed vs. Battery Level
We tested Sport mode top speed at different battery levels:
| Battery | Top Speed (Asphalt) |
|---|---|
| 100% | 52 mph |
| 75% | 51 mph |
| 50% | 49 mph |
| 25% | 44 mph |
| 10% | 35 mph |
Performance drops noticeably below 25% battery.
Factors That Affect Speed
1. Rider weight: Every 20 lbs reduces top speed by ~2 mph
2. Terrain: Loose surfaces reduce speed by 10-15%
3. Battery level: Significant drop below 25%
4. Temperature: Cold weather reduces motor output
5. Tire pressure: Lower pressure = more rolling resistance
Is 50+ mph Enough?
For off-road riding, 50 mph is more than sufficient. Most trail riding happens at 15-30 mph. The Sport mode top speed is great for open terrain and flat stretches.
Verdict
The Windone RM7's speed claims are largely accurate (with the display offset being standard for the industry). 52 mph on asphalt and 46 mph on dirt is impressive for a $1,299 electric dirt bike.
