The Windone RM7 is built for off-road adventures, but getting the most out of it requires proper technique. Here are seven essential tips for riding your RM7 off-road.
1. Master Your Body Position
Your body position is everything off-road. Stand on the pegs with slightly bent knees, elbows up, and weight centered. This position allows the bike to move beneath you while maintaining control.
Key principle: The bike moves under you; your head stays level.
2. Use the Right Riding Mode
The RM7's three modes serve different purposes:
- Eco: Technical trails, steep descents, maximum range
- Normal: General trail riding, mixed terrain
- Sport: Open trails, hill climbs, when you need maximum power
Start in Normal mode and adjust based on conditions.
3. Read the Terrain
Look 10-15 feet ahead, not directly in front of your wheel. Your bike goes where your eyes look. Scan for:
- Loose rocks
- Ruts
- Water crossings
- Root systems
4. Tackle Hills Properly
Going up: Lean forward, maintain steady throttle, and keep momentum. Don't stop mid-climb.
Going down: Lean back, use regenerative braking (Eco mode), and let the bike roll. Don't grab the front brake hard.
5. Handle Sand and Loose Gravel
Reduce tire pressure to 12-15 PSI for better grip. Keep your speed up — momentum is your friend in loose conditions. Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns.
6. Cross Water Safely
The RM7 can handle shallow water crossings (up to 6 inches). Maintain steady speed, keep your feet on the pegs, and avoid stopping in water. After crossing, test your brakes.
7. Respect the Battery Off-Road
Off-road riding consumes battery faster than pavement. Plan your route with range in mind:
- Sport mode off-road: ~25 miles range
- Normal mode off-road: ~35 miles range
- Keep your return trip in Eco mode
Practice Makes Perfect
Start on easy trails and gradually increase difficulty. The Windone RM7 is forgiving, but building skills takes time.
